How do you care for your pearl jewelry?

Cum iti ingrijesti bijuteriile cu perle?

Pearls are the jewels of the sea, formed organically in the depths of the water, and continue to "breathe" even after they have been harvested. Therefore, they require special and careful care to preserve their natural beauty and delicate shine over time.

It may seem surprising, but pearls love to be worn! Contact with human skin makes them especially happy thanks to the natural oils secreted by the body. Even if you don't wear them every day, try to take them out of the box occasionally.

What to avoid when wearing pearls

Pearls are sensitive to many substances around us, so it's important to know what can affect them:

Cosmetics and perfume: Pearls are the last thing you add to your outfit before you leave the house. Never apply lotions, perfume, or body or hair products after wearing pearls. Wait for them to completely absorb before putting on your jewelry.

Contact with water: Avoid wearing pearls in the pool or sea. Chlorine, salt, and sun can dry out the pearl and damage its surface.

Intense activities: Do not wear pearls while exercising.

Chemicals: Chlorine, hairspray, hair dye or bleach are the biggest enemies of pearls.

Maintaining pearls after wearing

At the end of a day of wearing them, pearls deserve some attention. Wipe them gently with a soft, clean cloth to remove any traces of sweat, dust, or perfume. If you notice any stains where your pearls have been in contact with gold or silver, these may be from oxidation – a simple wash with mild soap and water will do the trick.

How to store them correctly

Even if pearls are your best friend and you love wearing them every day, give them a break overnight. It's best to store them in a separate compartment or soft bag. Also, avoid hanging them—especially if they're heavier necklaces—because the elastic they're strung on can stretch over time. Pearls are also sensitive to scratches, so don't leave them in contact with other jewelry.

Restringing pearls – a gesture of care

If you wear your pearl necklaces frequently, it is recommended to re-string them periodically. The string we use is slightly elastic to give them flexibility, but once it is stretched excessively, it does not fully return to its original shape. If you need repairs, cleaning or re-stringing, we look forward to seeing you in our showroom for specialized maintenance services.

The beauty of pearls lies in their natural simplicity, but also in the care with which we treat them.
